Elementary Mini Courses
Week One: July 7-11
Drama Camp (ages 6-12 years): Weds. July 9-Friday July 11: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $120 for the week.
"Do you have a rising star in your family? Let your kids have the opportunity to put together some summertime drama! We will craft props,
set the scene and paint a face or two to act out some stellar folk tales together. Pack a lunch, some sunscreen and a water bottle for this
drama intensive."
Buried Alive (ages 9-14 years): July 7-11: 9-11:30a.m. Cost is $100 for the week.
"This five day workshop will introduce students to the world of soil science right under their feet. They'll find answers to questions such as: What is soil?
Where does dirt come from? How did it get everywhere? what is the relationship between plants and soil? The five days will be structured around concepts related to soil composition and formation, soil chemistry, soil organisms and plant-soil interactions. Through labs and outdoor activities, students will explore pH, nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, the plant life-cycle, vermin-compost bins (worms!) and other soil organisms. Please note: students will need to dress appropriately for outdoor activities and be prepared to get down and dirty!"
Let's Dance (ages 8-13 years): July 7-11: 12:30-3:00 p.m. Cost is $100 for the week.
"1,2,3,4 Let's Dance! Come learn to count and dance to music. We'll be making up dance routines with pom pons (that you can keep!) and then we'll choreograph one all together! This course will expand your knowledge of rhythm, movement and coordination through dance techniques. No experience necessary, but wear active clothes and bring your enthusiasm and some favorite music!
Knitting Together (KTOG): (ages 9-14 years): July 7-11: 12:30-3:00 p.m. Cost is $100 for the week.
"Knitters already know what "KTOG" means....Knit Together"! WE will teach newbies the ins and outs of knitting and crochet and take experienced knitters to a higher level during this week of fiber fun. Parents are welcome to sign up too!
Week Two: July 14-18
Healthy Gourmet (ages 9-14 years): July 14-18: 9-12:00 a.m. Cost is $120 plus $175 for cost of meals (see below).
"Each day, we'll prepare our own lunch as well as a healthy, delicious, well-balanced dinner to bring home for your family (family of 4). We'll learn new cooking and baking skills each day. All meals will be completely prepared by the class with as many local, whole foods as possible. The emphasis will be on learning skills your child can use again and again!"
Cartooning (ages 6-12 years): July 14-18: 9-11:30 a.m. Cost is $120 plus $25 material fee for the week.
"This quirky class will have your children filled with laughs as they create their own characters and send them though all sorts of wacky drawing adventures. Doodlers and avid drawers are all welcome. Drawing supplies will be made available at each class; but children are welcome to bring their favorite art materials."
The Wonders of Electricity (ages10-14 years): July 14-18: 9-11:30 a.m. Cost is $100 for the week.
"The basic principles of electricity, using many demonstrations from the Department of Physics at UW Madison. Don't miss this exciting opportunity!"
Scrapbooking (ages 7-12 years): July 14-18: 12:30-3:00 p.m. Cost is $100 plus $12 material fee for the week.
"In this class, you will learn the basics of this fun craft. We will cover picture cropping, page set-up, use of background colors, the use of stencils and stickers, journaling tips and more! we will also discuss a little bit about acid-free materials and what it means to create an archival quality scrapbook. We will work on creating one page each day and you will finish the week with the beginnings of a wonderful scrapbook! Plan to bring several special photos alongt he first day.
Sketching Studio (ages 6-12 years): July 14-18: 12:30-3:00 p.m. Cost is $120 plus $25 material fee for the week.
"Do you want to be an artist? Explore fundamentals of portraiture, contour drawing and still life as we head outdoors to draw from nature. Wear suitable clothes and bring a waterbottle for a possible hike to our sketch site. Classes will be held indoors if weather suggests. Your child will need to purchase a sketch pad at least 12X12 inches of quality art paper. Other drawing materials will be provided each class, but your child is welcome to bring their favorite art materials."
Lunch Bunch: Join us for lunch and playtime each day (Cost is $5 per day...please provide your child's lunch).
